Naples Croatian Festival 2022

Helping little Angels spread their wings

Naples Croatian Festival 2022 was a charity event organized right after Hurricane Ian hit our area in Naples, Florida. That year, the Festival raised funds for Little Angels Worldwide, which supports orphanages in Croatia and Nigeria run by Carmelite Nuns, as well as local charities Feed Thy Neighbor and Monastery of St. Clare for those who lost their homes during Hurricane Ian. The event was attended by over 200 guests, and more than 30 volunteers helped to make the event a success. The community came together to celebrate Croatian culture and help raise funds via auction items and raffles, and netted $54,326. I was honored to be a keynote speaker at the event and spoke about my experience visiting and volunteering at The House for Children St. Theresa of the Child Jesus: starting at the age of 8 and thinking it was a playdate until I realized the special circumstances the children were in after I grew up. I have become acutely aware over the years of the lack of the children’s families in their lives. It made me appreciate my family and realize how fortunate it is to grow up in a loving and supportive family. This experience motivated me further to go back and help in any way possible to make the lives of those children better and ensure they get the needed support at least from their caregivers and Carmelite Nuns.
